This stunning collection of textile art was created for exhibition at the prestigious Southampton International Boat Show in September 2021. The artworks were created by sewing recycled fabrics directly onto discarded Admiralty sea charts in Hannah‘s innovative and unique style.
The Collection features a colourful squid at the Isle of Wight, Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth and a majestic heron at Chichester Harbour, as well as a portrayal of Sir Francis Chichester’s iconic yacht ‘Gipsy Moth IV’ in which he undertook his legendary round the world voyage in 1967.
The Boat Show also saw the launch of Hannah’s latest and biggest publicly available artwork to date ‘Shipping Forecast’. This measures 106 x72cm and was created by sewing directly onto a full size chart.
All designs will be available across the range of sumptuously soft faux suede cushions, tea towels, coasters and cards shortly.
Hannah creates her textile art in my studio at home in Devon, by sewing recycled fabrics onto discarded admiralty sea charts and occasionally old Ordnance Survey maps. Hannah artworks reference locality and heritage, culture and wildlife, while the charts provide an immediate linkage to the context and environment of the subject and bring their own history to the piece.
