As a child, like most children my age, I also dreamt of becoming a superhero. I always wondered how amazing it would be if I could fly high in the sky or move from one place to another in a snap. It was only after I stepped into adulthood when I realised that I do possess a superpower. I discovered that I could move mountains and save humanity – with words. My writing skill became my superpower.

Like me, you can also wield this superpower. But in order to use this power to its fullest potential, you need to constantly strive to get better at writing. Like most other skills, it requires discipline and consistent effort to hone your skills. After all, becoming a superhero won’t be that easy, right? So, if you’re not sure how you can improve this skill, here’s a little insight that might be helpful.

1. Read and then read some more

Even if you saw it coming, I’m still going to reiterate because it’s THAT important. If you want to become a better writer, you need to be a better reader first. Read authors, bloggers, reporters and any other types of writers you can find. This will enhance your vocabulary and knowledge of using proper syntax and grammar. It’ll also expand your world view, arouse your curiosity and foster creativity.

When you read, you get to explore interesting topics, experiences, cultures and can tap into the minds of the creative geniuses that the world has ever produced. Besides that, reading is therapeutic and enjoyable.

2. Spare a thought about your intended audience

You need to identify the people you are writing for. Who is your intended audience? Where in the world do they reside? What is in it for them? Will this solve their problem?

Writers are essentially givers. So, in order to become a better writer, you can’t consider your own purpose alone while writing. Always acknowledge the needs of your audience and pack as much value in your written text for them as possible. If you achieve that, consider the battle half won. This makes you a decent, conscientious writer.

3. Write every day

If you want to upgrade your assignment help writing skill, you need to write every day. You may have been keeping up with the different social media challenges, so how about you turn this one into a challenge as well. This way, you’ll not only enhance your writing skill, but you’ll also help your friends with the same.

Writing every day is the ideal way to practice this art and improve your thought process. Write at your own pace and even if it’s just for 15 minutes a day. You don’t have to write 20 pages at a stretch, but you do need to make sure you write. If you can’t come up with a topic to write about, maintain a journal and update it daily.

4. Be subtle with the use of the English language

Irrespective of how complex a topic is, write your message in the most direct, legible and relevant way possible. It’s the English language, not Quantum Physics, so it’s best to treat it like it is. While you’re writing, you must never insult your readers’ intelligence and patience with pretentious jargons, inflated vocabularies, and extraneous ideas.

Rather, employ everyday words to make reading pleasurable for your readers. For example, instead of writing the word ‘eliminate,’ write ‘end.’ The word ‘end’ is shorter, catchier and more familiar to people around the world. It reduces the scope of confusion and misrepresentation of your intended meaning.

5. Stay active (while writing)

When you write in an active voice, your written text comes across sharper and easier for your readers. Passive voice, one the other hand, can come across as vague. Sentences with passive voice are often difficult to understand. Also, the sentence structure may seem confusing because it’s not obvious who is performing the action in the sentence.

When you write in an active voice, your sentences flow better and increase the readability of your written piece. This also helps keep your readers wanting to read more. Using active voice helps emphasise on the subject of the sentence and makes the sentence more concise.

6. Include diverse sentence lengths

Experimenting with your sentence length, and structures allow you to avoid monotony and allows you to emphasise wherever it’s appropriate. Use short sentences to highlight an idea and create an impact. Use longer sentences to define, elaborate or explain ideas.

Also, make sure to blend simple, compound and complex sentences. Also, make sure to includeoccasional commands and question into your writing. Remember that writing is more than just conveying something meaningful— it’s also about sounds and visual appeal on paper as well.

7. Trim that fluff down

When editing your work, remove any unnecessary words and phrases in your text to ensure you get to the point quickly instead of beating about the bush. Nothing screams “amateur” than using extraneous, verbose terms and phrases in your writing.

For example, instead of saying ‘due to the fact that’ ‘owing to the fact that,’ just say ‘because,’ or ‘since.’ Trimming everything down makes your writing easier to consume and understand. It simply takes the readability of your sentences to a whole new high.

8. Writing and editing all at once is a no-no

Keep the academic writing guide and editing processes separate. This will let you devote adequate time, space and quiet necessary to complete both tasks successfully. When you write, focus solely on the message you’re trying to convey in an uninhibited manner.

Then as you move on to the editing process, check for surface-level issues of grammar, style and typos. Don’t worry about writing a substandard first draft too much as long as you set aside a substantial amount of time to edit later.
